Who we are

The Center for Electromicrobiology, CEM, http://cem.au.dk, is a Center of Excellence supported by the Danish National Research Foundation. Our main research focus are centimeter-long, so-called “cable bacteria” that consist of thousands of cells and conduct electrons. Our three overarching research questions are: how are the electrons transported, how are they exploited by the cells, and how do they shape ecosystems? CEM was established in 2017 and has secured funding until October 2027.
